🤖🚕 Robotaxis coming to the Peninsula

Waymo just expanded its service area with roughly 80 new square miles of Peninsula streets. This includes Brisbane, Millbrae and Burlingame, but also stretching through Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Los Altos Hills. Although covering parts of the Peninsula, SFO pickups remain off-limits for now. Read more here.

🚦 Crosswalk Hack Patched

Was that Musk or Zuckerberg talking to you through the crosswalk buttons? It’s possible it was. Redwood City and Caltrans say they’ve sealed the security hole that let pranksters hack Peninsula crosswalk buttons to play deep-fake Elon/Zuck voices back in April. Redwood City and Caltrans say they’ve addressed it by tightening passwords and adding lockouts. Read more here.

🚔 DUI Checkpoint Alert

Redwood City police will be conducting a DUI checkpoint 6 p.m. – 2 a.m. this Saturday, June 21, kicking off on El Camino Real at Carlos Ave. and later shifting to Woodside Rd. at Bay Rd. A reminder to line up a sober ride—alcohol, cannabis and even some medications can contribute to a DUI offense. Read more here.

🚧 Night Work on El Camino 

Caltrans will shut the southbound El Camino Real by Hillsdale Mall 9 p.m.–5 a.m. weeknights, June 16–25, to swap out a damaged culvert; drivers should follow the signed detour via E. Hillsdale Blvd → Edison St → 36th Ave and expect delays. Read more here.

🎗️ Burlingame Gets a Cancer-Fighting HQ

The 70-year-old Cancer Research Institute (CRI) will cut the ribbon on its new West Coast office at Burlingame City Hall on Wed June 25, at 5 p.m.

The nonprofit has already invested more than $560 million in immunotherapy research. This local hub brings those breakthroughs, clinical-trial resources, and volunteer opportunities straight to our community. Read more here.

⭐ CuriOdyssey Earns Blue Star Status

San Mateo’s hands-on science and wildlife hub at Coyote Point is now a Blue Star Museum, which means active-duty service members and up to five family members get in free all summer long (May 17 – Sept 1). Read more here.

🏰 Bing Crosby’s Record Sale — Bing Crosby’s 11-bedroom Hillsborough chateau sold in just under three months for $25 million, cracking the town’s top-five price list. The 1920s, 5-acre estate—once home to Seabiscuit’s owner and still flaunting Hearst-sourced antiques—will stay intact under a local buyer bent on preserving its unique past. Read more here.
