🚉 San Francisco wants Caltrain to be independent of San Mateo County

San Francisco officials are proposing that Caltrain operate independently from San Mateo County’s governance, a shift that could change how the rail service is run and funded. The idea stems from ongoing concerns about regional equity, long-term funding stability, and how decisions are made for the corridor that connects multiple counties.

Caltrain’s future governance has been a topic of discussion among local leaders for some time, especially as the region’s transportation needs evolve. San Francisco’s proposal suggests a new governance structure where decisions are made by a broader group rather than primarily by counties that host the rail line. Local riders and policymakers will be watching closely as these discussions unfold. Read more here.

Consumer spending and home sales have also shown resilience, reflecting sustained activity in the local economy. Officials emphasized that, while challenges remain, including housing affordability and labor demand,  the overall picture points to a balanced economic footing. Residents interested in local jobs and business trends may find reassurance in these latest figures. Read more here.

If you’re craving bright Middle Eastern flavors that hit just right, Falafelle in Belmont is an absolute go-to. We stopped by for lunch and couldn’t resist their namesake falafel, crisp on the outside, tender and perfectly seasoned inside, nestled into warm pita with all the zingy toppings you dream about. The hummus pita pocket was just as satisfying, smooth and rich without ever feeling heavy. Pair it with a refreshing pomegranate iced tea or a mango milk, and you’ve got a meal that feels light but tastes like more. The casual, cheerful vibe makes this a fantastic spot for a quick lunch with friends or a laid-back family dinner. Read more here.
