🔌 SamTrans Powers Up with $36M Electric Bus Charging Deal

SamTrans just approved a major $36.3 million contract with Clark Construction Group to build charging infrastructure for their growing fleet of electric buses! This is a huge step toward the transit agency's goal of running a completely zero-emission bus fleet by 2034. The agreement will fund high-capacity chargers and overhead pantograph systems to keep those clean buses running smoothly throughout San Mateo County. 

The Board of Directors says this is a major milestone in their push toward 100% zero-emission transit, which means cleaner air and quieter rides for all of us local commuters. Pretty exciting to see our county leading the charge on green transportation! Read more here.

🏗️ Hillsdale Shopping Center Gets Green Light for Fast-Track Development

The state just confirmed that Bohannon Properties' massive Hillsdale Shopping Center redevelopment project qualifies for streamlined approval under Senate Bill 330, which means fewer city hearings and faster processing. 

The ambitious plan calls for demolishing most of the current mall and replacing it with up to 1,670 new homes plus 2 million square feet of office and retail space across 44 acres. Talk about a transformation! While this fast-track approval gives developers more certainty and locks in current fees and zoning rules, some residents are concerned about losing their voice in the planning process. 🚔 Heads Up: DUI Checkpoint Coming to 9th Avenue 

Just a friendly neighborhood reminder that San Mateo police will be setting up a DUI checkpoint on Wednesday, August 28th from 6 PM to 2 AM! This time they'll be stationed at 9th Avenue and S. El Camino Real. Police choose these locations based on data showing impaired driving crashes, so it's all about keeping our streets safer for everyone. 

Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk, and that includes everything from alcohol to prescription meds and even legal cannabis. First-time DUI offense fines average $13,500 plus a suspended license. Remember to call an uber or have a designated drive whenever you’re planning to have a drink! Read more here.
