San Mateo’s Glazenwood Neighborhood Officially Designated Historic District
The City of San Mateo has formally recognized the Glazenwood neighborhood as a historic district after realizing that decades-old assumptions about its status were never made official. The area, known for early-1920s Spanish Colonial Revival homes near Central Park and the former Peninsula Hotel site, will now be subject to rules preserving its architectural character. Homeowners will need approvals for major exterior changes to ensure renovations align with historical styles. For residents, this means protections for the neighborhood’s heritage but also added review steps for property updates. Read more here.

Burlingame Council Discusses Behavioral Health Facility Proposal
Burlingame city leaders recently began discussing a proposal to bring a behavioral health facility to the city, a step that comes amid ongoing regional debates about where such services should be located. The idea follows controversy over a previous proposed site in San Mateo, and the county has considered purchasing property in Burlingame that once housed a similar facility. Some residents support expanding access to treatment services, while others raise concerns about traffic, safety and community impact. The council conversation signals that Burlingame could play a role in addressing countywide mental-health infrastructure gaps, though community engagement and planning will be key. Read more here.

Redwood Shores Residents Urged to Watch for Aggressive Coyotes
Neighbors in Redwood Shores around the 900–1000 blocks of Redwood Shores Parkway and Rockport Avenue have reported sightings of bold coyotes wandering the area. Police and animal control are asking locals to be cautious, keep pets indoors, and report new sightings to help track activity. For those walking dogs or with small pets, taking extra care, especially at dawn and dusk, can help avoid unwanted encounters. Read more here.
